No More FODMAPS For Me?

Monday, January 12, 2015

I'm not someone who makes 'new year resolutions'; but there is something I have been putting off that I really need to do.

I've mentioned before that I've been on a gluten free diet for about seven years now; and being on the diet has helped a lot. But even when I would try to be really careful there were times I would still end up getting sick. Every time it would happen I assumed I just missed something. But there has been new research coming out of Melbourne that says unless you have actual Celiac disease, its probably not gluten that's bothering you.
 Instead its a group of really long named carbohydrates that irritate your digestive system; codenamed FODMAPs.

Over the summer I did the elimination part of the diet for about four weeks and I could tell a difference. I had more energy, fewer headaches, and I was in an better mood overall.

Then after four weeks I gave up.

Why; you may ask.

Because I'm weak.

Because one of the things to avoid is high fructose corn syrup. Which means no pop. {Yes, I'm from Indiana; I call it pop.}

I LOVE pop. I drink it pretty much every day. It was so hard to give it up for even those four weeks; I couldn't imagine giving it up forever so I just quit.

I'm a loser, I know.

But I really want to feel better again. I want to have energy and not feel sick all the time.

I know I need to go back on this diet; I'm just procrastinating.

I'm hoping writing about it here will make me more determined to not only start it, but stick with it!

I know I need to do this because I am going to need to feel as good as I can to deal with these two:
